DOG PORTRAITS

I am a pet portrait artist based near Grantham in the UK and have been painting and drawing dog portraits for over twenty years. There is something so special about dogs. They love us like no other animal, and like many other dog portrait artists, I really enjoy painting them.

I am a dog owner myself and know just how much they mean to their humans.  They are all are different and have their own special ways. They are part of the family.

Examples of dog portrait paintings and drawings can be seen on this page. If you move your mouse over each dog portrait it will tell you what medium it is painted in. If you click on a dog portrait it will bring up a larger version and you then have the option to go to full screen in order to see even more detail.

I have examples of dog drawings in graphite pencil, as well as dog portraits in pastel, acrylic and gouache watercolour.

When deciding on which photograph to use, choose one with the best detail and which shows your dog in the best light. If you want a highly detailed dog portrait, then a head study is a good choice because I can achieve the best detail when I am painting at near life-size. My smallest portrait sizes are suitable for head studies of small dogs, but you may need to choose something a bit bigger for a head study of a German Shepherd, for example. For full body dog portraits, then the larger the portrait the better if you require a high amount of detail.

If you have any questions about any of the dog portraits on this page, or if you wish to discuss your own dog portrait, please contact me. (contact details can be found at the foot of each page, or you can click on the Contact Me tag and complete the short query form.)
